A warm welcome from Dr Alexandra Abel

President of the Hull Medical Society 2023-2024

Hello, my name is Alex and I am a GP registrar in Hull. Our society is a local charity that focuses on advancing medical science (through our lectures and bursaries) and promoting camaraderie (through our socials and networking opportunities). The themes I have chosen for our programme this year are: health equity, evidence-based medicine, and inclusivity in health professions education. We have also made our membership free for students and junior doctors. I look forward to meeting you at our events over the coming year.

What Our Members Say

“I am very grateful to Hull Medical Society for supporting my attendance at the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery 2019 meeting and allowing me to present my experience and research at the April meeting.

It is a fantastic initiative which encourages students to attend national conferences and meetings in order to develop their portfolio and expand their views and knowledge."
Vassili Crispi
2019 bursary winner
“Hull Medical Society have supported me so I could run a medical education project for students.

They have welcomed medical and physician associate students, providing a platform for them to give presentations at their meetings.

I am very grateful for their support and look forward to working with them as a junior doctor.”
Dr Alexandra Abel
"Membership of the medical society has made it easier for me to work more effectively through better relationships with colleagues who are there for me when I am not sure how to manage a particular problem.

Usually if one of my colleagues can’t help directly they will know the best person to approach. Meeting socially builds trust and makes it easier to approach colleagues for advice.”
